Movement Monitoring
Movement monitoring is a key consideration when carrying out work where potential movement, caused by demolition of existing buildings or new construction works such as tunneling or basement excavations, can have an adverse affect on both the building itself and neighbouring structures.
Movement monitoring involves the continual or periodic measurement of the position of key points on buildings that could potentially be affected by ongoing works. The amount of movement, if any, can be quantified and reported.
By comparing the results against baseline measurements any movements can be identified and appropriate action taken to ensure that work does not negatively affect structural integrity.
As well as being a precautionary measure, movement monitoring is also a useful tool to disprove any perception of movement or damage if movement is not occuring.
